The "categories" were taken from the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) system, which can be found at the National Center for Charitable Statistics (http://nccs.urban.org/classification/NTEE.cfm), and slightly modified. This system is used by the IRS, NCCS, and the Foundation Center to classify nonprofit organizations grants and grant recipients (typically nonprofits or governments).

Below is a complete list of the categories and examples of organizations within that category.
